Addie's Tongue Mishap

Addie has jumped off our stairs hundreds of times (ok, maybe not hundreds, but a lot) and had tons of fun. She loves to show us how she can jump from three stairs up. Then she gets brave and jumps off four stairs and is so proud. Well, today jumping off the fourth step with her little buddy Lincoln, Addie starts screaming. Her mouth was full of blood and I wasn't sure if she had bit her lip, cheek, or her tongue. You guessed it, the tongue (the title of this post helped I'm sure). She had bit into her tongue with her two front teeth and it bled like crazy. It finally stopped bleeding after about 30 minutes and Addie wasn't crying anymore but under further review her wound looked really freaky. Her tongue was gaping open and the cut looked like it went at least a cm deep (which is a lot for a 3 year old tongue). It looked like a piece of meat that had been sliced, gross!

So I decided to take her to the doctor. It took me the whole ride to the doctors to convince Addie that she was a brave girl and could show the doctor her tongue. When we got to the doctor Addie did as instructed and showed the doctor. After two different doctors took a look they decided it was bad enough that they'd need to put a sutcher in it so it could heal properly. Addie did one more "brave" thing and let them put medicine on her tongue to get it all numbed up, then her braveness ended. She refused to let the doctor anywhere near her tongue. I tried the nice mommy, the firm mommy, the really really nice mommy, and I didn't have the heart to try the mean mommy in order to get her to stick out her tongue again. I had given up hope that she'd stop crying and let the doctor near her tongue... so we gave up and went home without stitches. They said it might heal with a flap or a split where her tongue was cut. I just hope it heals quickly and it's not too painful. Poor Addie.

I couldn't get a very good picture of it, these don't do it justice but they're still gross so don't look if you're faint of heart.

Ah! Poor Addie, that looks so painful! Maybe it'll get a really cool scar that she'll have a fun story her whole life!
